Penance Day:
The Rosary
Our Father, Glory Be, 3 Hail Marys, Saint Michael, Guardian Angel Prayer
The Penitent's Litany
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy.
And according to the multitude of Thy tender mercies,
blot out my iniquity.
God shall come manifestly: our God shall come and shall not keep silence. A fire shall burn before him: and a mighty tempest shall be round about him. [Psalm 50:3].

Lord, have mercy on me.
Christ, have mercy on me.
God the Father of Heaven,
Have mercy on me.
God the Son, Redeemer of the world,
Have mercy on me.
God the Holy Ghost, Perfecter of the elect,
Have mercy on me.
Holy Trinity, one God,
Have mercy on me.
O God, Who by the voice of Thy prophets and Apostles
dost call upon us incessantly to be converted and to abandon our evil ways,
Have mercy on me.
O Divine Saviour, Jesus Christ, Who didst Thyself come on earth to call sinners to repentance,
Have mercy on me.
O Jesus, the Good Shepherd, Who didst come among us to seek and to save the lost sheep,
Have mercy on me.
O Jesus, Who hast declared that unless we do penance, we shall perish everlastingly,
Have mercy on me.
O Jesus, Who desirest not the death of the sinner, but that he be converted and live,
Have mercy on me.
O Jesus, Who hast assured us that there shall be joy in Heaven
over one sinner that is converted and does penance,
Have mercy on me.
O Jesus, Who, in the example of the prodigal son returning home to the bosom of his father,
hast inspired us with confidence in Thy tenderness,
Have mercy on me.
O Jesus, Who for the sake and salvation of sinners wast pleased to undergo so many hardships,
abhors, and fatigues,
Have mercy on me.
O Jesus, Who didst not refuse to receive publicans and public sinners,
in order to draw them to repentance,
Have mercy on me.
O Jesus, Who callest upon us to be converted to Thee with all our hearts,
Have mercy upon me,
O Lord, and hear my prayer.
Have mercy upon me,
O Lord, and hear my petition.
From all evil,
Deliver me, O Lord.
From all sin,
Deliver me, O Lord.
From the spirit of impenitence and from all hardness of heart, Deliver me, O Lord.
From final impenitence,
Deliver me, O Lord.
By Thy Baptism and holy fasting,
Deliver me, O Lord.
By Thy labors and sorrows,
Deliver me, O Lord.
By the merits of Thy Precious Blood, which Thou hast shed for my sins,
Deliver me, O Lord.
On the Day of Judgment,
Deliver me, O Lord.
That Thou would vouchsafe in Thy mercy to create in me
a new heart and a new mind,
I beseech Thee to hear me, O Lord.
That Thou would vouchsafe to conduct me to true repentance,
I beseech Thee to hear me, O Lord.
That as I have imitated the Prodigal in his sins, so may I also imitate him in his sorrow,
I beseech Thee to hear me, O Lord.
That as I am the lost sheep, so Thou, as the Good Shepherd,
deign kindly to carry me back to the fold upon Thy shoulders,
I beseech Thee to hear me, O Lord.
That as hitherto I have served iniquity unto iniquity,
so henceforth I may serve justice unto sanctification,
I beseech Thee to hear me, O Lord.
That I may cultivate all the virtues of the truly penitent
and bring forth fruits worthy of piety,
I beseech Thee to hear me, O Lord.
That for the time to come, renouncing all impiety and worldly desires,
I may live chastely, soberly and innocently,
I beseech Thee to hear me, O Lord.
That Thou wilt give me the grace and courage to resist my passions,
to bend my will to obedience to Thy laws,
and to crucify my flesh with its vices and concupiscences,
I beseech Thee to hear me, O Lord.
That, like the prudent virgins in the Gospel, I may be always watchful,
that I may cherish prayer and that I may cultivate industry,
I beseech Thee to hear me, O Lord.
That I may with confidence have recourse to the throne of grace,
that thus I may obtain grace in seasonable aid,
I beseech Thee to hear me, O Lord.
That Thou wouldst not deal with me according to my sins,
but in Thine infinite tenderness, have pity upon me,
I beseech Thee to hear me, O Lord.
That I may so purify myself by penance and by the sufferings of this life
as to avoid those torments which are reserved for the impenitent hereafter,
I beseech Thee to hear me, O Lord.

O Lamb of God,
Who takest away the sins of the world,
Spare me, O Lord.
O Lamb of God,
Who takest away the sins of the world,
Graciously hear me, O Lord.
O Lamb of God,
Who takest away the sins of the world,
Have mercy upon me, O Lord.
Let Us Pray.
O God, Who willest not the death of the sinner, but that he be converted and live, vouchsafe in Thy mercy to look down in compassion upon my misery and my weakness, in order that, remembering that I am only dust and ashes and that soon, in punishment for my sins, I must return to dust and ashes again, I may thus be prepared to receive the pardon of my manifold offenses and receive that recompense which Thou hast promised to the penitent, through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.
O Father of Mercies and Tender Physician of our Souls, I have grievously sinned against Thee, and I am no longer worthy to be called Thy child. I have repaid Thy benefits with ingratitude and Thy graces with neglect. I have merited Thy displeasure and have deserved the heavy weight of Thy punishments. Deeply aware of this, my unhappy state, behold, I now present myself before Thee to implore Thy pardon. Pardon me then, O God of Love, and remember not the sins of my past life. Remember only that Thou art my Father and that I am still Thy child. Thy mercy still exceeds the greatness of my misery. Wherefore, O God, unworthy sinner that I am, I will not cease to confide in Thee. In Thee, O Lord, I have trusted; let me not be confounded forever. I propose from henceforth daily to bewail my past ingratitude, and I now make at Thy feet the firm resolution never more to offend Thee mortally, and to fly with the most prudent care from all those occasions which I know by experience are dangerous to my weakness. By the help of Thy grace, I will adopt the securest means of overcoming my passions and of subduing my evil habits, through Jesus Christ Our Lord.

Prayer to Our Lady of Sorrows
Blessed Virgin Mary, Our lady of Compassion, I turn to you with filial confidence. You shared fully in the work of our lord Jesus Christ, whose Death brought life to the world. Help me now to understand the truth about the divine compassion. Teach me to accept the sufferings that come into my life as you accepted obediently your own deep sorrows. Loving Mother of the Redeemer, you consecrated yourself by submitting to the divine plan. Obtain for me the grace to make my own submission to the same wise providence, now and at the hour of my death. Amen.

Reparation
Fatima Angel’s Prayer
O Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary I beg the conversion of poor sinners.
Fatima Eucharistic Prayer
Most Holy Trinity, I adore Thee! My God, my God, I love Thee in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
Fatima Sacrifice Prayer
O Jesus, it is for the love of Thee, in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and for the conversion of poor sinners that I offer my mortifications and penances.
The Golden Arrow
May the Most Holy, Most Sacred, Most Adorable, Most Incomprehensible and Unutterable Name of God be always Praised, Blessed, Loved, Adored, and Glorified in Heaven, on Earth, and under the Earth, by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of our Lord Jesus Christ, in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.
Reparation Prayer
Eternal Father, turn away Thy angry gaze from our guilty people whose face has become unsightly in Thine eyes. Look instead upon the Face of Thy Beloved Son, for this is the Face of Him in Whom Thou art well pleased. We now offer Thee this Holy Face, covered with shame and disfigured by bloody bruises in reparation for the crimes of our age in order to appease Thine anger, justly provoked against us. Because Thy Divine Son, our Redeemer, has taken upon His Head all the sins of His members, that they might be spared, we now beg of Thee, Eternal Father, to grant us mercy.
Purgatory and Conversion
Crux Ave
O hail the cross our only hope in this Passiontide grant increase of grace to believers and remove the sins of the guilty.
I hail thee, Jesus crucified, for granting me life. I hail thee with all the joy of the angels and saints during your descent from the Cross. I hail thee with the sadness of your mother while you rested on her Immaculate heart and lap.
Repeat 5 times:
O Crux Ave, spes unica, et Verbum caro factum est. O Jesus, conqueror of death, save us!
Fatima Pardon Prayer
My God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love Thee. I beg pardon for all those that do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love Thee.
Prayer of St Gertrude
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home, and within my family.
Prayer of Conversion – St Faustina
O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of Mercy for us, I trust in You.
Virtue, Holiness, and Devotion
Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Prayer to reproduce the Image of God in our Souls
I salute You, I adore You, and I love You; Oh Adorable Face of my beloved Jesus as the noble stamp of the Divinity! Completely surrendering my soul to Thee I most humbly beg Thee to stamp this seal upon us all, so that the image of God may once more be reproduced by its imprint in our souls.
Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life.
Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O Good Jesus, hear me. Within your wounds hide me. Permit me not to be separated from you. From the wicked foe, defend me. At the hour of my death, call me and bid me come to you that with your saints I may praise you For ever and ever.

Fatima Action Prayer of Suffering
Heavenly Father, we offer these, our meager prayers, in union with the Infinite Sacrifice of Thy Beloved Son, who gave Himself entirely for our redemption. May our humble offerings of prayers and mortifications, united to Christ’s Suffering on the Cross, offer reparation to Thee for the offenses committed against Thy Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of The Blessed Mother.
O Queen of Heaven, you requested that we pray for sinners lest they face God’s Justice, through you we present ourselves as Thy instruments of Penance, to bring about God’s Will on Earth. We present to Thee, O Mediatrix of All Graces, the small merits earned by our sacrifices and implore Thee to deliver them to our friends and families, to those who have requested intercession, and those in most need of Mercy. O Lady of Sorrows, we consecrate ourselves, our works, and our sufferings to Thine Immaculate Heart, pierced by the sword and to Jesus Christ, Thy Son, whose Suffering and Death has redeemed the world, united with Thee in the mission to rescue souls from Hell and Eternal Fire.
O Lady of Fatima, we have heard Thy words and seek to do Thy will, united together in prayer and penance with all that offer their sacrifices for the conversion of sinners and in reparation out of the Love of God.
O Refuge of Sinners, in Your protection we place our families, our friends, our enemies, all that wrong us and offer us persecution. We ask you to protect The Holy Father, all of the priests and those consecrated to your Son in the religious life, strengthen the Faithful to pray ever deeper to bring about the Triumph of your Immaculate Heart and save the souls so dear to Almighty God that He gave His only Son.
In the Holy names of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph we ask this. Amen.
Additional Recommended Devotions for your voluntary Penance Day
The Prayer a Renewal of the Baptismal Vows
O my Lord and my God, I humbly prostrate in spirit before Thy Divine Majesty, I adore Thy sovereign justice and Thine infinite mercy. I am penetrated with fear at the consideration of Thine awful judgments, and my great ingratitude for Thy benefits, since I was ranked by baptism among Thy children, raised to the glorious dignity of a Christian and thus entitled to enjoy Thee eternally in heaven.
I was not then conscious of the precious grace bestowed upon me, nor of the awful obligations I contracted when I promised to renounce the devil, the world, and the flesh.
But I am now fully conscious of both; I most humbly thank Thee for having brought me safely to the waters of baptism, and I detest, from the bottom of my heart, every thought, word and action of my life which has been unworthy of a Christian.
Thou knowest, O my God, how often I have stained the robe of innocence with which I was then clothed, and how frequently I have violated my sacred promises; but Thou seest the contrition of my heart, and the sincerity with which I now renew, in the presence of heaven and earth, my profession of faith in the doctrines proposed to my belief by the Holy Catholic Church; as well as the promises made for me when I was regenerated in the waters of baptism.
I firmly believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord, Who was born and suffered for us; in the Holy Ghost; the holy Catholic Church; the Communion of Saints; the forgiveness of sins; the Resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.
I renounce the world, with its pomps, vanities, and false maxims, which I despise because they are accursed by Thee.
I renounce the flesh, with all its temptations, and sincerely resolve to endeavor to amend my faults, to conquer my passions, and to sacrifice all that is most dear to me rather than again deliberately sully that robe which I promised to carry unstained before the judgment seat of Christ.
O my good God, Who didst love me before I could love Thee, and didst apply to my soul the merits, of Jesus Christ when I was unable to implore that favor, look on me with compassion, and grant me all those graces, which will enable me to keep my baptismal engagement without reproof.
Increase in my soul the heavenly virtues of faith, hope and charity, which I received at baptism, and teach me to make faith the rule of my conduct, that it may avail me to life everlasting; through the infinite mercies and merits of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Who, with Thee and the Holy Ghost, liveth and reigneth, one God, world without end.
Amen.
Prayer to St Michael the Archangel (Original, long version)
O Glorious Prince of the heavenly host, St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the battle and in the terrible warfare that we are waging against the principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against the evil spirits. Come to the aid of man, whom Almighty God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of Satan.
Fight this day the battle of the Lord, together with the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there place for them any longer in Heaven. That cruel, ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels. Behold, this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage. Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay and cast into eternal perdition souls destined for the crown of eternal glory. This wicked dragon pours out, as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity.
These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where the See of Holy Peter and the Chair of Truth has been set up as the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered.
Arise then, O invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory. They venerate thee as their protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious power of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude. Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church. Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly find mercy in the sight of the Lord; and vanquishing the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations. Amen.
V. Behold the Cross of the Lord; be scattered ye hostile powers.
R. The Lion of the tribe of Judah has conquered, the root of David.
V. Let Thy mercies be upon us, O Lord.
R. As we have hoped in Thee.
V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come unto Thee.
Let us pray. O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy Name, and as supplicants, we implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin Immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious St. Michael the Archangel, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all the other unclean spirits who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and the ruin of souls. Amen.
CHAPLET OF SAINT GERTRUDE
How to pray the Chaplet of Saint Gertrude
The Chaplet of Saint Gertrude is prayed on the commonly known and popular Marian Rosary of 59 beads: Cross + 1 + 3 + 1 + Medal / 10 + 1 + 10 + 1 + 10 + 1 + 10 + 1 + 10.
Beginning at the Cross, pray the "Apostle's Creed".
This is followed by 1 "Our Father", 3 "Hail Mary" and 1 "Glory be".
Starting on the Medal and then on the 4 large beads between each decade (sets of 10 beads), pray the "Our Father."
On each of the small beads (in the sets of 10 beads), say the following prayer:
"Eternal Father,
I offer Thee
the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus,
in union with the Masses said throughout the world today,
for all the holy souls in Purgatory,
for sinners in the universal Church,
those in my own home,
and within my family.
Amen."
At the end of each set of 10 beads, say the following prayers:
"Most Sacred Heart of Jesus,
open the hearts and minds of sinners
to the truth and light of God, the Father."
"Immaculate Heart of Mary,
pray for the conversion of sinners and the world."
and 1 "Glory be."
The Breastplate of St. Patrick,
also known as The Lorica
The Lorica is an ancient Gaelic prayer attributed to St. Patrick and is an invocation to the Holy Trinity, usually recited in the morning. In the early Irish Church, loricas were numerous; some were written in Gaelic and some in Latin. In fact, the word, Lorica, is Latin, meaning shield or breastplate. Since prayer is a spiritual shield, these Irish loricas were prayed for protection against spiritual evils, but also from physical ones; the loricas came into being when the Gaelic pagans converted to Catholicism: the loricas were the replacement for the old incantations, which the new Christians discarded.

Prayer for the Hastening of the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
By Bishop Athanasius Schneider
O Immaculate Heart of Mary, Holy Mother of God, and our tender Mother, look upon the distress in which the whole of mankind is living due to the spread of materialism, godlessness, and the persecution of the Catholic Faith.
In our own day, the Mystical Body of Christ is bleeding from so many wounds caused within the Church by the unpunished spread of heresies, the justification of sins against the Sixth Commandment, the seeking of the kingdom of earth rather than that of heaven, the horrendous sacrileges against the Most Holy Eucharist, especially through the practice of Communion in the hand, and the Protestant shaping of the celebration of the Holy Mass.
Amidst these trials appeared the light of the consecration of Russia to thine Immaculate Heart by the Pope, in union with the world’s bishops.
In Fatima thou didst request the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays of the month.
Implore thy Divine Son to grant a special grace to the Pope, that he might approve the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays.
May Almighty God hasten the time when Russia will convert to Catholic unity, mankind will be given a time of peace, and the Church will be granted an authentic renewal in the purity of the Catholic Faith, the sacredness of divine worship, and the holiness of Christian life.
O Mediatrix of all graces, O Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and our sweet Mother, turn thine eyes of mercy towards us and graciously hear this our trusting prayer.
